BANK VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

October Half Term Newsletter 2007

Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers

This newsletter marks the end of our first academic year as Bank View High School and the start of our second full year.

Since the last newsletter we have received our external exam results.  These were excellent with 90% of pupils achieving one or more GCSEs.  Thank you for all the hard work from pupils and staff!

I look forward to working with you this year and achieving even greater success with our pupils.

BSF Scheme

Bank View High School will no longer move onto the Croxteth Comprehensive School site under the BSF Scheme (Wave 2).  This is largely due to the continuing falling pupil roll in Croxteth.

However, Bank View High School is still to be part of the BSF scheme but has been moved to Wave 6, estimated for completion by 2013 plus.

Consultation will take place by the LA to consider new proposals from several schools which could include Bank View High School.  I will update as and when new information is available.

Pupil Information

We would like to remind all parents of the importance of providing the school with any change of address or phone numbers, please let the school office know immediately.  There have been a number of incidents when it has not been possible to contact a parent when their child has been unwell, due to us not having up to date phone numbers.

GCSE Results – North Site

Congratulations to Year 11 on their fantastic exam results.  This year’s were better than ever.  Every student in  Year 11 achieved at least 1 GCSE grade and many left with 5.

Special congratulations go to two pupils for achieving a marvellous Grade C in Art.

Many thanks to all the staff involved for all their hard work and to the parents for their support.
What a team!

ANNUAL REVIEW DATES

(For pupils at the North Site)

As I am sure you are aware, an annual review is held in school every year for your child.  It is a chance to come to school and hear about your child’s progress and also to set targets for the next year.  Please make every effort to attend.

The dates for this year have been set and are as follows:

Monday, 19 November               Year 13

Tuesday, 27 November              Year 12

Wednesday, 5 December           Year 9

Thursday, 6 December              LAC

Wednesday, 9 January              11a

Monday, 21 January                  11b

Tuesday, 19 February               10a

Monday, 3 March                     10b

Tuesday, 1 April                       Year 8

Monday, 14 April                      7a

Wednesday, 7 May                   7b

The reviews will take place during the day, so we ask you to keep your child off school on the day, to enable teachers to attend this important meeting.

You will get a time for the meeting and a copy of the Annual Review, two weeks before the meeting.  There is also a form we would encourage you to complete, which is your chance to make suggestions about what you would like to see for your son/daughter.  Your child also completes a form in school stating their views.

Also as part of the annual review process, your child will have a chance to speak to a Pupil Advocacy Worker, Ms Radha Wilkinson.  She will work with your child to complete their Pupil View Form, which are questions about how they feel about school and the learning process.

Please contact Jackie Taylor, at the school, if you do not wish this to take place.

Coffee Morning – North Site

Years 12 & 13 organised a Coffee Morning for the McMillan Cancer Support on Monday, 8 October 2007.  It was a great success and they would like to thank everyone who supported them to raise a total of £67.00

Work Experience

12-23 November – North Site

Year 11 are currently being prepared for their work experience.  I am sure we will get some excellent reports back from placements.

Operation Christmas Child

You should have received a letter re the “Shoe Box” appeal.  We would be grateful if you could help these needy children by filling a shoe box or by donating £2.00 (which helps towards the cost of transportation etc).   Please contact the school if you need any further information.

Two of our south site pupils have been attending practices with a group of actors for the past month for a production taking place in the Unity Theatre.  The pupils performed in the production for 3 nights on 5th, 6th and 7th October.  They were fantastic!  Well Done!

We have been setting a new dance studio up for the past few weeks and are pleased to say that it is now up and running.  Pupils can go in there 3 lunchtimes a week and we are now running a dance option group.

Several of our pupils had to stand up and give a speech at the Liverpool Schools Parliament meeting on the 8th October one being voted as a Special School’s Prime Minister by various schools attending that day.

The Munch Bunch Tuck Shop, – North Site

Year 13’s business enterprise is doing very well.  Sales have been excellent, with all students working very hard.  Thank you for supporting them and, rest assured, your child is getting good value for money with their purchases.

Kind regards.
