Christmas Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers

Another good term has just flown by!

It has been a busy term, but with a lot of positive outcomes.  Bank View pupils took part in the Merseyside Da Da Performing Arts Festival in November and won first prize.  Work experience has just finished for all Year 11 pupils which was again both valuable and successful.  This year’s exam results showed increasing numbers of pupils gaining respectable grades at GCSE and Entry Level.

Christmas activities and events are now impacting around the school.  Thanks go to all those families that support the school’s fundraising activities, eg bingo which supplies our merit prize system throughout the year.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I look forward to your continued support.

 Best wishes.

 I R WRIGHT

Thank you to all those parents/carers who sent “shoe boxes” into school.  In total we received 16 boxes as well as £40.00 to cover the administration costs.

Thank you once again for supporting this very worthwhile cause.

OUR BENNY

On 17 November pupils from the South Site attended Sandfield Park after school for their tea and they all went to the Empire Theatre to see the musical ‘Our Benny’.

The production was enjoyed by all and a few tears were shed both by the staff and pupils.

CHRISTMAS BINGO EVENING

The North Site held a Christmas Bingo and raised a total of £450.00 which goes towards buying prizes for the merit system.

Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets and attended on the night and a big thank you to all who helped organise the event and for making it an enjoyable evening.

The pupils have been busy making Christmas cards, which will be on sale at the school concert on 15 December.

They are being sold for £1.00 each and all proceeds will go to school funds.

SKI TRIP, YORKSHIRE DALES – North Site

Year  11a  were the winners of the Whole Class Merit prize for September and October.  They went for a day out at Pendle Ski Club, near Clitheroe, where they chose to go sledging.  Everyone had a great time which was finished off with a McDonalds lunch.

All students were a credit to themselves, family and school.

Well done.

DA DA FESTIVAL

Just Do It, Just Did It

The Da Da Festival was held on Tuesday November 24.

It was a wonderful evening to showcase the talents of our young people.

Bank View North’s dance group  "Just Do It" stole the show with two fantastic dance routines.

They achieved the score of 28 out of 30.  Sammie-Jo from Year 13 choreographed the dances and ran rehearsals for the group comprising eight of our pupils.

It was a wonderful achievement!

Perfect new venue at the Nova Contemporary Urban Centre in Jamaica Street with food provided.

Beth and Indigo gave a sassy performance of Hero, very first live performance.  Well Done!

Anthony and Zayd performed a rap which they choreographed and wrote themselves.  Brilliant!

Gary and Craig  compared the show.  Well done to them both.

Sandy Park Choir were excellent.  The Choir consisted of students from Bank View South and Sandfield Park.

Entries of Art and Poetry pieces were also displayed from all schools, North and South Site included.

Very well done to the North Site for their dance team winning the live act of the night award.  Brilliant dance

South Site events

3 pupils have also helped put together the Liverpool NWDAF Calendar for 2009 with many helpful and funny comments.

2 pupils are attending an after school Animation and Computers course.  Good luck to them and hope they enjoy it.

Yr 11 pupils made Christmas cards for the Enterprise Scheme and sold them in school.  The amount raised was £15.

Work Experience - North Site

3 November – 14 November

Year 11 completed a very successful work experience fortnight.  They are well on their way to earning their Compact certificate.

Well done.

 Computers for Pupils Scheme

There are a number of our pupils who have received computers from Liverpool City Council and the school has been advised that the free internet access provided as part of the scheme will end on Saturday, 28 February 2009.

The free access scheme was due to end during December 2008, however, the council has negotiated an extension.

Internet access, provided by the aircard modem will no longer operate after  28 February.  However, if parents wish to purchase their own appropriate sim cards and buy their own airtime for these devices, they may do so.
